Nikon has been one of the biggest players in the creation of both SLR and DSLR cameras for decades, and now it has thrown its hat into the ring of mirrorless design and production. Like the Sony Alpha range, Nikon has managed to cram a full-frame sensor, 5 stops of in-built image stabilisation and eye detection AF – amongst other fabulous features into the super-compact bodies of the Z 6II and Z 7II. Both F mount (via an adapter) and Z mount lenses are supported, and as always with Nikon, low light performance is superb.

Option 1 - Nikon Z 6 II with FTZ Adapter, Nikon Z 24-70mm f/4 lens & Nikon Z 70-200mm f/2.8 lens
Weekend from £177 - hire now!

The Nikon Z 6 II is a mini powerhouse that boasts many advantages over its predecessor, such as a new dual processor, improved autofocus – including eye and face detect, as well as dual memory card slots that record to both cards simultaneously. The Z 6 II not only gives you access to Nikon’s superb new range of Nikon Z glass, but in addition, by using the FTZ adapter you can also make the most of Nikon’s prestigious full-frame F series of lenses. Whilst powerful, the Nikon Z 6 II is small and unobtrusive, meaning that all eyes will be on the happy couple, rather than you!

The Nikon Z 24-70mm f/4 S NIKKOR is the perfect companion for the Z 6 II as it is small, light and discreet, and the wide 24mm focal length makes it ideal for group shots when there’s a lot to get in the frame. A maximum aperture of f4 throughout the zoom range doesn’t quite match the performance of the f/2.8 equivalent, but it’s still nothing to be sniffed at and if you need to boost the exposure further, the Z 6II is excellent in low light – offering ISO up to 51200 ISO.

70-200mm is a wonderful focal length for shooting weddings, it’s long enough to capture intimate, candid shots from a distance without disturbing your subjects, and opens up to 70mm which is a classic choice for portraits and couple shots. The constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout is not only a true asset in low light, but it produces those dreamy blurred out backgrounds to isolate subjects within the frame and create a timeless, cinematic feel.
This lens is also great in low light – not only because of the large aperture, but because it has vibration reduction (VR), which will freeze static subjects in low light when a longer shutter speed Is required.

If you are used to shooting with a DSLR, this may be the camera that entices you to the world of mirrorless. If you are used to professional DSLR bodies, then the huge reduction in size and weight won’t go unnoticed, especially by the end of the day when you are packing your kit away.
The Z 7 II boasts astonishing low light capabilities, giving you more freedom when light is limited and reducing the need for a flashgun when you are trying to go unnoticed.
Autofocus is super fast and accurate, plus Eye AF means you will get the most important area of the face in focus – particularly when shooting with a shallow depth of field.
Dual card shots give you true peace of mind – configure the camera to either start recording on the second card the moment the first is full, or choose to record to both cards simultaneously – safe in the knowledge that you have a solid backup the instant the image is captured.
Another invaluable feature is the high dynamic range – the amount of detail retained in both the highlights and the shadows, which is a true asset – especially when shooting outdoors in harsh sunlight... Who’s ideas was it to shoot group shots at 1pm?!

24-70mm is a beautifully versatile focal length for shooting weddings, you may well find it spends more time on the camera that any other lens throughout the day. It is optically excellent and rivals the quality you would expect form a fast prime. Whilst it is bulkier than the f/4 version, what you get in return is the larger aperture – giving you even shallower depth of field, more refined bokeh and of course, extra low light performance.
