Our thoughts on the GoPro HERO12 Black...

'The GoPro HERO12 is a new and exciting addition to the GoPro family, with a host of features that elevates it far above previous models. The first headline feature is the much improved battery life. The Hero12 can shoot 5.3K 60fps for up to 70 minutes on one charge, whereas the Hero11 Black is limited to around 35 minutes. HDR video gives you more control in high contrast environments which is perfect when shooting from inside a car or when preserving the glorious detail of a sunset, with beautiful, vibrant colours. HDR tops out at 5.3K at 30fps, or 4K at 60fps.

The new Bluetooth feature is a real boon. Its most exciting function has to be its ability to pair compatible Bluetooth headphones – such as Apple AirPods. It provides two channels – one from the Bluetooth device and one via the camera, so if the camera is far away (up to 10 metres) or perhaps mounted outside of a moving vehicle, you can still narrate the action. Additionally, if the camera is out of reach, you can issue voice commands through your headset.

GoPro has finally added GP-LOG with available LUTs, saving you time during post-processing – a welcome addition. Plus, for further improved consistency, an unlimited number of HERO12 cameras can be synchronised using the GoPro Quik app. Newly designed 1/4-20 mounting threads have been added, and of course it comes with all the usual bells and whistles, including its familiar rugged design and the fact it’s waterproof down to 10 metres.'
