12 Days of Christmas
Alex Parker
Canon is still at the top of the tree.
It's been a big couple of years for Canon, fresh from fleshing out their line up in 2021 and 2022 respectively. The manufacturer's innovations never go unnoticed, as this year it bagged 5 gongs at The TIPA Awards, including Best Camera Innovation for the EOS R3, and Best Professional 8K Hybrid Camera for the EOS R5C.
With no interest in resting on its laurels, Canon continued adding to its arsenal in 2023. Join the camera roster was the fantastic entry-level full frame Canon EOS R8, the blog-friendly Canon EOS R50 and the compact, versatile and affordable Canon EOS R100.
On the lens front, Canon continued to bolster its RF line with width and reach, with great offerings like the 28mm F2.8 STM and the RF 135mm F1.8L USM, to the incredible reach of the RF 200-800mm F6.3-9 IS USM. Equally exciting was the RF 24-105mm F2.8L IS USM Z, bringing power zoom to the line, something many didn't expect.
Great Deals this Christmas.
If we haven't hammered it home enough yet, this year we're offering the whole of the Christmas period for the price of just 2 days hire. This means tremendous opportunities to try kit you've had your eye on, at a fraction of the cost. The offer applies automatically to everything in our warehouse, but here are a few different options from Canon, just to whet your appetite!
Canon EOS R6 Mark II - £117 exVAT for 12 days
Casting your mind back to the summer of 2020, Canon had a (quite literally) captive audience for the announcement of their latest cameras, the EOS R5 and EOS R6 respectively. These two made a huge splash and felt like the true start of their impressive assault on the mirrorless market. Both bodies are still extremely popular, but three years on, it was time for an update.
The EOS R6 Mark II refines and improves upon the original in a variety of ways. The new 24.2 Megapixel sensor doesn't just offer more detail, but more speed too, namely a new 40 frames per second burst mode that is completely silent.
On the video front, The R6 Mark II offers 4K video with 6K oversampling and, crucially, no cropping, and not an overheating issue in sight. These refinements combine to delight all shooters.
It's fair to say this is a 'sweet spot' camera, it's all things to all comers, and it's exactly what you would expect from a manufacturer operating at the peak of its powers. The Canon EOS R6 Mark II is available for just £117 exVAT for the whole of Christmas, with return on 2nd January 2024.
Canon EOS R7 - £65 exVAT for 12 days
Speaking from experience (having shot with the this camera extensively for a number of projects here), I can tell you that the R7 is an absolute joy to use. A lightning-fast hybrid with the added reach you get with an APS-C sensor, the R7 did me proud for stills and video, excelled in low light, and was comfortable and intuitive to use.
The R7 continues the EOS 7D series legacy by being extremely quick, with rapid autofocus and 30fps burst shooting (15fps mechanical). Expect up to 7 stops of IS too, as well as oversampled 10 bit video, twin card slots and environmental sealing. Surprisingly affordable, the Canon EOS R7 could be the perfect camera to take for a spin this Christmas, and perhaps pick up when the sales arrive after the break.
Canon RF 28-70mm F2L USM - £77 exVAT for 12 days
This one has been popular from the very moment we got it here at Hireacamera. If anyone needs convincing that it might be time to upgrade from their old DSLR lenses, the RF 28-70mm F2L USM might just be the glass to do it.
Offering superb clarity that is a visible step up from the technology that came before, Canon's beast of a lens is a one-of-a-kind delight that can truly and honestly be described as 'sharp to the very corners'. A satisfying heft, this lens has three separate control rings and a focus-by-wire system that feels great and works even better.
Whether you're considering this giant for a purchase or curiosity has just got the better of you, there's never been a better time to try the Canon RF 28-70mm F2L USM and see what all the fuss is about.
Canon RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM - £77 exVAT for 12 days
If it's focal range you need, look no further than Canon's RF 100-500mm. This dual-motor masterpiece offers extreme clarity and sharpness across the range, providing an all-in-one solution for those who need reach, but don't own Mary Poppins' bag.
This lens doesn't mess about with minimum focal distance either. At 100mm expect to be able to focus on subjects less than a metre away, making this a handy lens for macro style work as well as details in the distance. This is the sort of lens that you can really get the best out of at Christmas where there are no shortage of occasions for shooting.
At just £77 exVAT for the whole of Christmas, grab yourself a bargain and see what you've been missing with the Canon RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM.
Book your hire by the 18th December to make sure you don't miss out on our 12 days for the price of 2 scheme!
